Wen-Sinn Yang

In 1989, at the age of 24, Wen-Sinn Yang became principal cellist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra where he stayed until 2005 when he was offered a chair at Munich School of Music.

In 1991 he won first prize in the Geneva International Music Competition. Since then the virtuoso musician has performed in many concerts all over the world, making use of the opportunity to promote 20th century music.

He has worked with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, performing his 'Music for Cello and Orchestra' in Germany for the first time, as well as with Sir Colin Davis, Mariss Jansons and Wolfgang Sawallisch.

Wen-Sinn Yang has made over 20 CD recordings, including the cello concertos of Haydn, Dvorák and Boccherini and the entire chamber music works of Aribert Reimann. He produced a DVD of Bach's cello suites in a pilgrimage church in Bavaria in conjunction with Bavarian television.

The Swiss cellist, son of Taiwanese parents, received his musical training in Zurich under Claude Starck and in Berlin under Wolfgang Boettcher.
